About this course
Dementia Essentials is a Commonwealth funded initiative delivered by Dementia Australia as part of Dementia Training Australia offering fully
funded education to workers who provide support to people living with dementia. In this accredited course, you will learn how to incorporate therapeutic communication techniques; apply a person-centred approach; and develop useful strategies to respond to changed behaviours.
By successfully completing this nationally recognised unit, you will gain a comprehensive knowledge of dementia and receive a formal Statement of Attainment.
On completion of this accredited course you will develop an understanding of:
• the nature of dementia
• the impact of dementia
• effective communication strategies
• purposeful and meaningful engagement
• the environment of care and a person-centred approach to support
• understanding changed behaviours and developing effective responses
• the application to care practices and reporting requirements
