Course description

Course Summary

Dementia increases the risk of developing delirium approximately five-fold. Delirium is a medical emergency and if not treated can increase the risk of adverse outcomes including increased length of stay in hospital, further complications, cognitive and functional decline, and mortality.

This program will help you to recognise symptoms of delirium, identify possible causes, promote recovery and develop prevention strategies for people living with dementia.

On completion of this session, you will better understand:
• signs and symptoms of delirium
• the causes of delirium
• the relationship between delirium and dementia
• the risks associated with delirium
• how to develop a dementia support plan that focuses on enabling a person living with dementia
• prevention strategies to minimise delirium
